D+CinChurchThis year at the Annual Meetings of the American Academy of Religion and Society for Biblical Literature (Baltimore, November 23-26) we’re  interested in assembling a panel of speakers who can address concrete, physical Christian activities which have been influenced by post-modern thought.

That is, we are primarily interested not in post-modern reflections upon Christian practices, but in hearing about embodied practices that have been influenced, adapted, or instituted because of work by, or related to, Jacques Derrida and/or John Caputo.

We are most excited to receive proposals that can clearly point to certain academic work(s) and specific examples of activity (Preaching, Liturgy-creation, Bible Study methodology, Outreach et al.) within church-settings inspired by, or developed from, that work.

Speakers need not be members of traditional churches or participants in the practices explored, merely reference particular observable examples. Selection preference will be given towards specificity rather than abstraction.

Proposals should be no longer than 500 words and selected  papers should be completed by Oct. 28. The panel will most likely take place Saturday Nov. 23 at 5pm (there is a chance that it is will be Friday at 5pm, but we won’t know till AAR tells us the dealio).

Caputo himself will be present at the event and will respond. It is also possible that participants selected to speak at the panel will have the option to have their work published in a Caputo-edited book for release to a wider audience than might be present at AAR/SBL.

Please fill out this form by August 31 to submit your proposal and we’ll get back to you shortly after that.
